Elections are over and the hard mahi is underway for Ōpōtiki’s new councillors and mayor. New and returning elected members have completed training with Local Government New Zealand, joining others from around the country to learn the ropes of how to be a councillor and best represent the community.
They have also been in two intense days of induction here in Ōpōtiki. Councillors have been joined by the managers of each department and have spent time working through each area’s main functions, services and projects, and discussed the challenges and opportunities they are facing. It has also been an opportunity to visit some important pieces of infrastructure such as here visiting the Imhoff tank, part of Ōpōtiki town’s wastewater treatment system.
