Roading issues – potholes, damage and other issues

If you see a pothole or slip or any other damage on our roads, please report it so that it can be repaired and dealt with promptly.

We want to make sure your request goes to the right place so just a reminder that State Highways (SH2 and 35 in our district) are the responsibility of Waka Kotahi, the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA). All other roads are Council’s responsibility (local roads, residential streets, berms, footpaths and the town centre)*.

If the issue is on SH2 or SH35, please call 0800 4 HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49) to report the issue to Waka Kotahi.

About our roading services

Council provides ongoing management, development and maintenance of the District land transport network. This enables the safe and efficient movement of people, goods and services that avoids damage to the environment. It contributes to the social and economic development of the community.

Roads provide access to properties, the passage of traffic and the transportation of goods and services.

Council works to ensure an integrated transport network by working with other agencies and authorities as part of the Regional Transport Committee.
