Whenever you're planning to head out on one of the great Mōtū Trails rides, it pays to check the trail conditions first. The Mōtū Trails website is regularly updated with this info so you know what to expect before you ride.
Please be aware that logging has just restarted from the Whitikau valley, 18km north of Motu village and the trucks will be using Mōtū Road to take the logs to Gisborne. This may be a 7 day a week, 18-24 month operation. There will be signage at both the Mōtū village and Whitikau junction ends to remind everyone to take care.
The lower end of the Pakihi Track currently has several sections in rough condition. Sounds like an opportunity to give your rear a rest and walk these bits!
And if the rest of you needs a pit stop as well, there is a new shelter 9km from Mōtū village at the top of the hill.
