Make sure you're enrolled to vote
The local elections are being held in October this year. This is when you choose who will be on our councils and health boards.
It's an important choice because local government shapes the place you live and makes decisions about services you use every day like footpaths, roads, water, libraries and the parks where you take your tamariki. It's about culture, events, economic development and much more. That's why it's important you make sure you're enrolled to vote.
The local elections will be held by postal vote, so you need to be enrolled correctly by 16 August to get your voting papers in the mail.
The Electoral Commission is currently sending out enrolment update packs. When you get your pack in the mail, check your details are correct, so you don't miss out on voting. If your details are right, you don't need to do anything more. If anything needs updating, make the changes and send it back straight away.
If you don't get a pack by 8 July, it means you're not enrolled or you need to update your address.
Enrolling, or updating your details, is easy - go online at vote.nz, call 0800 36 76 56, go in to any PostShop or pick up an update pack from our office at 108 St John Street, Ōpōtiki.
