Nominations open for 2019 Local Authority Elections
Nominations for candidates who want to stand in this year's local authority elections have now opened.
Anyone over the age of 18 can stand for election as long as they are a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on the electoral roll.
In Ōpōtiki, candidates can stand for Mayor, Councillors for the Coast, Waioeka/Waiōtahe and Ōpōtiki Wards, Coast Community Board members as well as Bay of Plenty Regional Council and Bay of Plenty District Health Board members.

They include information on making sure you abide by election rules and regulations and will help ensure you understand the responsibilities and accountability of the role and have the abilities, skills and training needed to be an effective elected member.

2019 Pre-Election Report (available 24 July)
Nominations close at noon on Friday 16 August. We encourage candidates to submit their nominations well in advance of this deadline as sometimes changes or additions are required to ensure paperwork meets electoral requirements. This means applications may need to be re-submitted. The deadline cannot be extended, so all submissions and re-submissions need to be received before the Friday 16 August deadline.
Nomination forms are available on the Elections page on this website or from Council's main office at 108 St John Street, Opotiki. The nomination forms on our website are editable this year which means you can complete them online then print them off before you complete the lodgement process.
