Ōpōtiki’s i-Site and Events Manager, Joseph Hayes, said that although 2020 had been a strange year, there was “still enough time” to run a last-minute, no holds barred Christmas event for family.
“Each year we have celebrated Christmas in unique Ōpōtiki style, with a Christmas parade and a bit of a family event.
“This year, with everything up in the air with COVID, we weren’t sure how things would play out, and what level we might be at, or whether events would be allowed and so on. But with just a couple of weeks to spare, we have decided that there is enough time to pull something together. But we’ll need the whole community to really get behind us this year.
“Things will be a little different – we won’t be parading down the main street and instead we’ll be at Memorial park on the make-shift Hana Koko Lane. It also means we’ll roll from the parade into the Christmas in the Park event, so that will be an awesome combo!
“So please, throw together your best make-shift float, brush off your instruments to perform and find your best Christmas outfits to make this the unique Christmas celebration that 2020 deserves,” Mr Hayes said.
