Help us with a new name for Ford Street Reserve
Ōpōtiki District Council is seeking the communities help to rename the Ford Street Reserve (aka the Rose Garden). Since January contractors have been busy making improvements to the reserve as part of the Provincial Growth funded, CBD upgrade work. The reserve will benefit from new playground equipment, new footpaths, new BBQ’s, new seating area and a new water play area.
With all this new equipment going in, Council feel it is time that the reserve was also given a new name. Council would like to agree to a new name at the June Council meeting, in time for the opening later in the month.
Submissions can be made using our easy online form, with paper forms also being available at the Council office, the Library and i-SITE office. Submissions need to be in to us by 1 May 2021. We ask that an explanation is given for why the name has been suggested. We would like for names to take in to consideration cultural reasons for the name and or significance of the past, in the present and in the future.
A shortlist will be created of 3 suitable names, along with explanations of their relevance. A final name will be selected by the Mayor and Councillors at the 1 June Council meeting. Signs will then be printed with the new name in time for the opening of the reserve.
