Flag lowered to half-mast as we acknowledge this sad time
This morning, flags were lowered to half-mast as we acknowledge and officially mourn the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Over the coming days, we will hear from central government about how Aotearoa will acknowledge her death and years of service as our Head of State. A condolence book is also now available in the Nethia Morgan room at Te Tahuhu o Te Rangi if you would like to add your special thoughts or memories to be passed to the royal family.
The Mayor, Lyn Riesterer, acknowledged this emotional time. “Many of us will have special memories of her. Both my parents met with the Queen more than once over the years and her photo has been on the wall of Council chambers for as many years as most people can remember. I admired her dedication and her duty of service. I share in sending our community’s condolences to the royal family at this sad time.”
