ANZAC parade and Civic commemorations

Anzac Day event pageAfter a few years of informal and more personal celebrations of ANZAC day, this year will see the return to the more traditional dawn service, parade and civic commemorations in Ōpōtiki.

The rotation of marae for the Dawn Parade will see Ōpeke Marae, Waioweka Pā host this year’s parade with the pōhiri at 6.30am. Details on Coast commemorations will be available on the Te Whānau a Apanui Facebook page this week.

Ōpōtiki Mayor, David Moore, invited the community to join the Ōpōtiki Returned Services Association to mark the important occasion.

“Over the last couple of years, the RSA has requested a more personal approach to the ANZAC commemorations to help protect vulnerable veterans and the wider community during successive covid outbreaks.

“This year, for the first time since Covid, the RSA will be retuning to the more formal parade and civic service. The dawn parade will also be at Waioeka this year.

“This date has always been very important to the people of Ōpōtiki so please join councillors and staff for the Parade departing from the Ōpōtiki Returned Services Association Memorial Club down to the cenotaph in town. More details are on the council or RSA website,” Mayor Moore said.

Please note, roads will be closed to vehicles for the parade and there will be traffic disruption for the morning of 25 April. Disability parking will be available in the Skatepark carpark on Potts Ave.
