Blessing for new build - new tenants moving in!
On Tuesday 11 July 2023, there was a small dawn blessing at Ōpōtiki District Council’s new building on Church Street.
The Laneway (Lots 9 and 10) has been handed back to Council from the contractors, Livingstone Builders, who have completed work on the two-story commercial premises.
Council’s Group Manager Community Services and Development, Anna Hayward, said that final internal fit-out and naming of the building will be carried out by new tenants.
“It was lovely to walk through the new space at dawn and really appreciate what a beautiful building and outlook we have now here in town.
“We hope to be able to share the name of the lead tenant shortly and I am sure the community will be excited to learn who will be joining our town centre.
“A smaller space on the lower floor has been rented by the Banking Hub and we can’t wait to welcome them to town. The extension of the regional banking hub trial to Ōpōtiki was announced last year and we are pleased to be able to offer them space in our new premises,” Ms Hayward said.
Chief Executive of the New Zealand Banking Association – Te Rangapū Pēke, Roger Beaumont, said he was delighted the new banking hub had found a home in the Council’s new building.
“It’s a great location and we’re thrilled to be part of it. We’re also really pleased that Ōpōtiki accepted our offer to be included in the trial. We’re testing ways to provide face-to-face banking services in communities where there’s no longer enough demand for a series of individual bank branches. The hub brings together our six biggest retail banks to provide services including deposits and withdrawals, phone and internet banking, a change machine, and in-person meetings with someone from you bank.
“We hope the hub is successful and the community gets behind it.”
