Staff closely monitoring wastewater overflow pond site

Council staff identified yesterday afternoon the wastewater overflow pond out near Snells Road had been overflowing and pooling beside the HEB harbour construction haul road.

As per our consent requirements, we have worked closely with Bay of Plenty Regional Council to monitor and remedy the issue. This has included installing a bund (this is like a wall made with sandbags) to direct the overflow towards the disposal field. Inspections this morning have shown this was successful and the overflow is now controlled. Staff have also started a sampling regime of surface and ground water at the site to understand any impacts. They will also continue to closely monitor the site to ensure the solution remains effective.
