The school holiday programme at Te Tāhuhu o Te Rangi was a success this July with young and young-at-heart each day making the most of activities ranging from Lego to kete weaving.
Library Assistant, Hannah Irakau Pehi, said that there were more than 350 people through the doors each day and that the feedback from children and adults had been incredibly positive.
“We are really pleased with how much the community has embraced our school holiday programmes and the feedback we are getting. We really appreciated all the awhi from whānau in helping children with activities and assisting in cleaning up our collective creative mess!
“Sometimes we have generations of whānau coming along, so our activities need to keep everyone engaged and busy at their own level. We’re all about getting people involved and learning new things.”
“We are guided by the values of manaaki (care), rongo (engagement), and pono (truth/an understanding). We bring this to all our activities and we have the chance to serve our community in bright and fun ways,” Ms Pehi said.
Activities included competitions, weaving Matariki stars, building ‘wish boxes’ and board games. There were some books for prizes and a few lucky people even took away 3D printing vouchers for the MakerSpace.
