Generous funding from Trust Horizon has helped light up Ōpōtiki’s town centre, replacing seasonal flags along the main street with neon banner lights in a variety of different shapes – silver ferns, stars, and even snowflakes.
Ōpōtiki District Council’s Reserves Manager, Garry Page, said that the lights would also replace the previous Christmas lights that went up and came down each year.
“It’s really nice to have a solution that doesn’t need to come up or down each year, which is a time-intensive and expensive part of the process. These will look great all year round and ties in nicely with the other upgrades to the street and lighting,” Mr Page said.
Trust Horizon provided almost $24,000 funding which has been put to great use helping the town look its best.
“These lights funded through Trust Horizon add to other projects they have funded including the original change of street lights to LED and the lighting upgrades at the skate park and Whitkau reserve.
“We timed them to be up during Matariki and with the works now also completed in Church street and the road back open, it is a chance to see all the parts coming together.
“We also have colour-changing festoon lights in town and the upgrades on Church Street have really given the town a huge boost. It shows a real pride in our town centre,” Mr Page said.
