Ōpōtiki District Council has several significant projects underway and is holding drop-in sessions at Te Tāhuhu o Te Rangi to provide more information and two-way conversations with staff and elected members.
Council’s Group Manager Finance and Corporate Services, Peter Bridgwater, said that some of the topics council was currently consulting on were “weighty” and would benefit from more open question and answer time.
“There will be a couple of sessions – one in the morning and one after hours. The idea is that both staff and councillors are there to answer either technical questions or more broad conversations about the long-term direction of council.
“Some of the topics are weighty: we have our Long Term Plan of course, that is top of mind. We are also currently seeking feedback on our Representation Review and what that means for both Māori and General wards, ward boundaries, and the number of councillors around the table. We’ve got changes needed for our wastewater treatment plant. And wherever possible, we’ll be open to other conversations and reminding people of some of the big changes like just having two rates invoices this year. It is a chance to bring all your questions at once and have a real conversation with decision-makers and staff on a range of topics,” Mr Bridgwater said.
Drop-in sessions will be at Te Tāhuhu o Te Rangi on Wednesday 28 August, 10am-midday and 4pm-6pm.
