On Wednesday 26 February 2025, rangatahi from the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs programme (MTFJ), supported by whānau, community and local business owners, received certificates from Ōpōtiki Mayor David Moore in a ceremony held in council chambers, recognising their achievements in the programme.
The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs programme is a partnership between Local Government New Zealand and the Ministry of Social Development to help get more local youth into long term, sustainable employment or training.
This event recognised their dedication and commitment to securing sustainable employment.
“I want to acknowledge the mahi of all those involved in helping get these young people to this point and the hard work and dedication they themselves have shown to achieve long-term employment.
“The importance of being able to celebrate their success alongside the community and business owners who help raise and shape these rangatahi is huge and reinforces the strong community support behind our youth as they take these important next steps,” Mayor Moore said.
Certificates were presented to Maya Anstis, now an administrator at Delta Contracting; Rico Taikato, a tyre fitter at Ōpōtiki Tyre Services; Regan Hennessy, a mechanic at Delta Contracting; and Blaire Collier, an agricultural worker at Hopu Downs Dairy farm.
