New urban kerbside collection service starts
Council has changed the urban kerbside refuse and recycling collection service to stop dog strike, allow for increased recycling capacity, and decrease the need for non-recyclable single use supermarket bags.
All properties on the urban kerbside collection service have been allocated new recycling crates and a 45L wheeled refuse bin.
What's changed?
Council has moved to a more efficient four crate system for recycling, and a 45L wheeled bin for residual refuse. The service has switched to two recyclables collected per week. Paper and tin one week and glass and plastic the next. Full information on how the new system works, including conditions of service, is included with the crates and bin and is also available on our Collection Changes page.
Residents can start using the new crates and bin now
The new service starts Tuesday 2 July 2019.
If residents have their new recycling crates and refuse bin they can start using them now.
Residents can also continue to use any left over black council refuse bags. They can also use them to take waste to the Opotiki Resource Recovery Centre at no charge.
Our contractor has now finished deliveries
If residents weren't home when our contractor tried to deliver the crates and bin they will have left a flyer with instructions on how to collect instead. As the collection point at Moody Place carpark is now closed you will need to call our contractor directly if you still need to collect your crates/bin. PH Trevor on 029 772 1187.
How we're letting residents know which two types of recycling to put out each week
We distributed a calendar with the crates and bin which shows which two types of recycling to put out each week. A copy of the calendar is also on our website and we have spares available at our office.
We recommend residents download the Antenno app to receive weekly reminders straight to their phone. The app can also be used to send Council feedback and receive notifications if there are changes to the service.
Frequently asked questions answered
Council is keen to receive feedback and provide answers to questions users of the service may have. The collection changes frequently asked questions page will be updated regularly and residents can send feedback by email to info@odc.govt.nz, PM us on Facebook, use the Antenno app or phone 07 3153030.
Further information on the new service can be found on our Kerbside collection changes page on this website.
