Council has scheduled to resurface some sections of Church Street from Church Street/Elliott intersection to Church Street/Richard Street intersection to extend the life of the road, provide a smoother road surface and to maintain the safety profile of the street.
Work is also scheduled to pave a section of the road in line with the Ōpōtiki Town Centre Master Plan, to support the revitalisation of the town centre with good urban design.
Council is taking a staged approach to this mahi, to minimise disruption and combine our town centre revitalisation work (paved area) with council’s normal public realm improvements (road resurfacing with hotmix).
Here’s what you need to know.
Road resurfacing with hotmix: First section
- Church Street – between Elliott to King Street
- Road closure Sunday 9 June (from 7pm) finishing on Tuesday 11 June. Weather permitting.
- Approximately 2 days, with pedestrian access around the work site area.
Church Street Town Centre Development Project - paved area
This mahi is part of the Ōpōtiki Town Centre Master Plan to support the revitalisation of the town centre with good urban design. Council recently completed the Elliott Street/Potts Ave Town Centre Development project. The Church Street paving will look very similar, with a combination of black and terracotta concrete paving stones, cobble stones, garden area and street bollards.
- Road closure Wednesday 12 June – 31 July (updated timeframe).
- During this time, carparks in the site area, will be unavailable, however the Elliott street carpark is available with direct walking access and pedestrian accessways around the site area.
Road resurfacing with hotmix: Second section
- Church street – between King Street to Richard Street
- Road closure Tuesday 11 June (from 7pm) finishing on Thursday 13 June. Weather permitting.
- Approximately 2 days, with pedestrian access around the work site area.
We understand this work may cause some disruption to people’s normal routine, but with a little bit of planning and adjustment we can get through this and our team on the ground, getting the mahi done, appreciate your patience and understanding.
