Parking infringements FAQs

Council will issue you with an infringement notice if your vehicle is illegally parked or does not meet the legal requirements to be on the road, as defined in the Land Transport Act 1998 and related rules and regulations. For example, you will be issued with an infringement notice if you park on the footpath, double park, or your vehicle is not displaying a current warrant of fitness (WOF) or registration.

The infringement notice will show:

• Details of your vehicle
• Date and time the ticket was issued
• Where your car was parked at the time
• Details of the alleged offence
• Fee payable
• Information on the reverse, including an explanation of your rights and obligations.

You may pay your parking infringement notice by the following methods:

• The easiest way is to make your payment online
• In person at 108 St John Street, Ōpōtiki by cash, debit or credit card from Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.30pm.
• By internet banking, ANZ Tauranga 01-0434-0334454-00. Particulars – vehicle registration, Code – infringement number, Reference – surname.

You have 28 days to pay your fine. After this time, a reminder letter will be set to the vehicle's owner and if the fine remains unpaid after a further 28 days, it will be passed to the court for collection. At this stage, an additional cost of $30 is added to the original fine, which may increase again if the fine remains unpaid 28 days after you are requested to pay by the court.
